Planning your custom tattoo

Start with the idea

Describe the subject, imagery or words you want tattooed. If there is a story or meaning behind it that you want considered, include that too. Say whether you are requesting one tattoo or several, and mention details you definitely want to include—or avoid.

Note the placement and approximate size

Write down where you want it, including left or right, and an approximate size in inches or centimeters. If it involves an existing tattoo, explain whether you are looking for a rework, a cover-up or a new piece beside it. Mention what is still undecided.

Gather a few useful references

Choose images that help explain your idea, then say what you like about each: the color, subject, linework or overall composition. Point out what you do not want as well. Reference photos and links can be added in the request form; a Pinterest board or shared album can keep related ideas together.

For color work, the form also includes Juniper’s skin-tone selection images and a follow-up if your tone is not represented. Choose for yourself rather than using a reference photo of somebody else as your answer.

Include your budget and availability
